M. Phil. Program
The prerequisites required for a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) degree make it the most advanced research degree before the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D). M.Phil. is regarded as a senior or second master’s degree, standing between a taught Master’s and a Ph.D.
Currently, the following six central departments are offering M. Phil. program under Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University:
4. Population Studies
5. Sociology, and
In these subjects, M. Phil. is pre-requisite course for Ph. D. research. Candidates who have got Master’s Degree with minimum second division can apply for admission. After giving an entrance examination, eligible candidates can register their name in related Department. Applications are generally called in first week of Ashadh and classes commence from the first week of Shravan every year.
This is 3 semester program of 30 credit hours. First two semesters equally loaded 24 credit hours and the last semester weighs 6 credit hours for thesis.
Researchers who have M. Phil. Degree may submit their Ph. D. dissertation after completing 2 years of registration.
