Ph. D. Program
The Office of the Dean, Tribhuvan University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (TU, FOHSS) offers Ph. D. Program in different subjects under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. There are two intakes, one in Magh (January) session and another in Shravan (July) session. However, application is called in Falgun (February) for Shravan (July) session and in Bhadra (August) for Magh (January) session.
The Process of Enrollment
Master’s degree with minimum second division is a pre-requisite for applying for Ph.D. In the subjects where M.Phil. Program is offered, students are required to have M. Phil. degree for the enrolment in Ph. D. Program. At present, the FOHSS is successfully running the M. Phil. Programs in English, Nepali, Economics, Population Studies, Sociology and Anthropology. And the faculty is planning to expand it in other subjects too.
For getting enrollment in Ph. D. program, candidates, who have passed the M.Phil. need to submit a copy of research proposal including the abstract of M. Phil. dissertation where as the candidates who have no M. Phil. Degree should submit additionally three research articles in which at least one article has to be published in a journal. The Office of the Dean, gets these documents evaluated by the experts and the candidates, obtaining 50% or above marks in evaluation, are called for an interview. After an interview, the final selection is done and successful candidates are informed to enroll.
All these processes are handled by the Research Committee. All the Faculties and Institutes of the University have a Research Committee with the Dean as the Chair. This Committee makes regulations, sets criteria, accepts and approves applications and provides supervisors, co-supervisors to the Ph. D. researchers. The Committee has the final authority of accepting the dissertation and awarding the degree.
